Mummy Hot Dogs

Ingredients

  • 8 pieces hot dogs
  • 1 package puff pastry or crescent dough thawed
  • 1 egg egg beaten, for egg wash

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. Unroll the puff pastry or crescent dough on a floured surface and gently knead it to make it slightly more pliable. Cut the dough into thin strips about 1/4 inch wide, using a sharp pizza cutter or knife.
  3. Take a hot dog and place it on the edge of a dough strip. Wrap the dough around the hot dog in a loose, crisscrossing pattern, leaving some space for the 'bandages' to look like mummy strips. Repeat with all hot dogs.
  4. Arrange the wrapped hot dogs seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them a couple of inches apart. Brush the dough lightly with beaten egg to give a shiny, golden finish.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven until the pastry is puffed and golden brown, about 12-15 minutes. You’ll hear a satisfying sizzling as the hot pastry crisps up.
  6. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the mummy hot dogs cool for a few minutes. Use small edible eyes or dots of mustard for the 'face' if desired, to add fun details.

Notes

Feel free to add small details like edible eyes or ketchup strips for extra spooky fun. Make sure to seal the dough edges well with egg wash to prevent open seams during baking.
