Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef 80% lean preferred
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese or your favorite melting cheese
  • 4 buns burger buns preferably brioche or sturdy enough to hold toppings
  • 1 lettuce leaves for monster hair and eyes
  • 1 sliced olives for eyes or other features
  • 1 small red bell pepper for monster tongues or details
  • to taste salt and pepper for seasoning the patties

Equipment

  • Grill or stovetop pan
  • Spatula
  • Baking sheet
  • Oven or toaster oven
  • Small knife or cookie cutters for eyes and details

Method

  1. Preheat your grill or stovetop pan over medium-high heat, and season the ground beef with salt and pepper. Form the beef into four equal flat patties, about half an inch thick, and set aside.
  2. Place the patties on the hot grill or pan, cooking for about 4-5 minutes on each side until they develop a browned crust and are cooked through. You should hear a satisfying sizzle and see juices bubbling on the surface.
  3. During the last minute of cooking, lay a cheese slice on each burger and allow it to melt completely, creating a gooey, cheesy texture reminiscent of monster skin.
  4. While the cheese melts, slice the burger buns in half and lightly toast them in the oven or toaster oven until golden brown, adding some crispness to the final texture.
  5. Place each cooked burger patty onto the bottom half of a bun. Use lettuce leaves to sprinkle above the cheese to mimic monster hair and add sliced olives or small bits of red bell pepper to create monster eyes and mouths.
  6. Decorate with additional toppings like chopped bell peppers or extra olives to give each burger an exaggerated, spooky facial expression. Place the top bun on, and press gently to set everything in place.
  7. Serve the Monster Burgers immediately, with extra toppings on the side if desired. They should be hot, cheesy, and playful, perfect for a festive Halloween meal.
