Ingredients

  • 6 cups fruit-flavored gelatin powder choose bright colors like red or neon pink
  • 2 cups hot water for dissolving the gelatin powder
  • 2 cups cold water to chill the gelatin and help with layering
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for added flavor
  • few drops food coloring use sparingly for desired hues

Equipment

  • Silicone brain-shaped mold
  • Mixing bowls

Method

  1. Begin by dissolving the gelatin powder in hot water, stirring until completely dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
  2. Add vanilla extract and a few drops of food coloring to the melted gelatin, stirring gently to incorporate vibrant hues and aroma.
  3. Pour a thin layer of the mixture into the silicone mold, filling just enough to cover the bottom and creating a base for the layers.
  4. Place the mold in the refrigerator and chill until the layer is slightly firm, about 10-15 minutes, until it develops a matte, jiggly surface.
  5. Repeat the process by adding another colored layer over the firm layer, carefully pouring to avoid mixing colors and maintaining height and convolutions.
  6. Continue layering and chilling in the refrigerator after each layer, alternating colors and building volume to mimic brain folds and texture.
  7. Once the mold is filled and all layers are set, allow it to chill thoroughly in the fridge for at least an hour, or until fully firm and wobble-proof.
  8. Gently unmold the gelatin by pressing the mold sides and flipping onto a serving plate, revealing the squishy, brain-like texture with intricate folds.
  9. Use a clean toothpick or small knife to adjust any imperfections, gently reshaping and refining the convoluted surface for a realistic effect.
  10. Serve immediately for best jiggle and vivid appearance, or keep chilled until ready to display or serve as part of your Halloween décor.

Notes

Use multiple colors and layers for a more realistic brain effect; be patient with chilling so the layers set properly. Adjust the food coloring sparingly to avoid overly bright or unnatural hues.
