Ingredients

  • 1 cup tomato juice preferably chilled
  • 2 oz vodka optional for an adult drink
  • 1 oz beet juice for blood-red color
  • 1 tsp Horseradish freshly grated or prepared
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika for smoky flavor
  • pinch black salt for rimming the glass
  • pinch chili powder for rimming the glass
  • ice cubes ice for chilling and serving
  • garnishes deli meat, olives, or creepy garnishes for spooky decoration

Equipment

  • Cocktail glass
  • Small plate for salt rim
  • Mixing glass or shaker
  • Bar spoon
  • Juicer or small blender
  • Strainer

Method

  1. Prepare the glass by running a lime wedge around the rim to help the salt adhere. Spread black salt and chili powder on a small plate, then dip the rim of your cocktail glass into the mixture until evenly coated. Set aside.
  2. In a mixing glass or shaker, combine tomato juice, beet juice, vodka (if using), freshly grated horseradish, and smoked paprika. Fill the shaker with ice cubes.
  3. Stir the mixture vigorously with a bar spoon until well chilled and slightly diluted, about 20 seconds. This helps blend the flavors and cools the drink.
  4. Strain the mixture into the prepared glass, pouring slowly to avoid disturbing the salted rim. The deep red color should settle beautifully, resembling blood.
  5. Add a few ice cubes into the glass if desired for extra chill and presentation. Arrange spooky garnishes, such as slices of deli meat, olives, or creepy decorations, on a skewer or atop the drink to enhance the eerie effect.
  6. Serve immediately, allowing the vibrant color and spooky garnishes to shine. Enjoy this visually striking and flavorful Halloween Bloody Mary!

Notes

Adjust spice levels and garnishes to suit your Halloween party vibe. For a non-alcoholic version, omit vodka and increase beet juice for a stronger color.
