Ingredients

  • 16 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese optional for flavor
  • 2 tbsp fresh herbs chopped, such as parsley or chives
  • 1/2 tsp paprika for color and a spooky shimmer
  • 1 bag black pretzels whole, for spider legs

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Plastic wrap
  • Baking sheet

Method

  1. Place the softened cream cheese and shredded cheddar in a mixing bowl, then mix until smooth and well combined. The mixture should be creamy and slightly fluffy.
16 oz cream cheese, 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  2. Fold in the chopped fresh herbs and paprika for added flavor and a hint of color.
2 tbsp fresh herbs, 1/2 tsp paprika
  3. Shape the cheese mixture into a tight, round ball using your hands, then wrap it tightly in plastic wrap. Chill in the fridge for at least 20 minutes to firm up.
  4. Once chilled, remove the cheese ball from the fridge and carefully place it on a serving platter. This helps it hold its shape well for decorating.
  5. Using clean hands or a spatula, smooth the surface of the cheese ball to create a neat round appearance.
  6. Arrange the black pretzels on the surface, sticking into the cheese to resemble spider legs radiating from the center. Space them evenly for a balanced look.
    1 bag black pretzels
  7. Adjust the pretzels as needed until the spider legs look evenly spaced and secure.
  8. Optionally, sprinkle a little extra paprika or herbs on top for added spooky effect and color.
2 tbsp fresh herbs, 1/2 tsp paprika
  9. Serve the creepy spider cheese ball chilled on a platter with additional crackers or veggie sticks for dipping and snacking.
